Haw River / Jordan Lake 4/6- 4/7

Was back down east for the holiday weekend and had a chance to fish alittle friday afternoon in the Haw and also in Jordan on Saterday morning. We did ok in the river with one foul hooked "NC Bone fish" carp, few bream and 5 mid-sized white bass on in-line spinners and hard baits. Tough fishing overall due to the cold front and cooler rain we had recently. Water level and color were on our side in both the river and lake. Saturday morning fishing with my sister, we had a blast it was really beautiful day out. Managed to catch one nice random, fatty catfish on a crappie jig tipped with a minnow. Then we found a few tough crappie on jigs with minnows. Crappie seemed to be a little bit shallower, in my opinion we still have a couple weeks to go on the sping run for whitebass in the Haw... Seemed to just be starting..?

SLABS!!!

Went out to Jordan on Saturday around 9am to play, "Lets find a crappie" I had heard a report they might be shallow 3-4ft. in Jordan, so we started hitting the banks with no luck, so I headed out to the 6-7ft. range with stump fields and standin timber. We put on floats and set then out with about 5 1/2 foot up from the jig, then just started driftin and pulling the bobber's about a foot at a time. Within a min. Baker caught the first fish of the day big ol' white crappie. After that we used that same pattern to slay 4 more big Crappie within a half hour. It's started to rain good and we paddled back with smiles. Mission accomplished, Crappie "slabs" have been found. Catch and release today...
My girlfriend's first big crappie!!!This year.

We were just using smallish white or yellow jigs to catch these fish.

Weekend River Report

Went back yesterday and this morning to fish in the little Tenn. river. I hiked in to near the first set of rocks, were good current starts. Did well yesterday with one 15in. Walleye, one white bass and one massive 1.5 pound Crappie. Made for a good lunch. Today I fished from 7am till 10:45am and caught 10 white bass, kept the 5 biggest. All were over a pound. No Walleyes today, maybe cuz the water was dingy and higher.??

Little Tennessee River / Fontana Lake 3-11-12

Fished from the bridge up to the first rapids /bend area and alittle past with my canoe. Parked it on a big rock and caught a nice spotted bass on a crawer walleye rig. Then moved up river some and found my first nice NC walleye on a white tube grub tipped with a night crawer. I watched the fish come up a devour it, amazing first fish at 18 inch. Beautful day on the water, folks were catchin a few smaller walleye from the banks Saw one nice small mouth pulled in today on worms. Overall, 3 fish in about 3 hr on the water.. Loved it...
