View From atop the Fort, Looking at the chopper pad and coal docks.  Dry Tortugas National Park

Lesson learned....

Each Fishing Chapter of my life is draws a unique portrait of the Business I foresee.  The year was 2004.           28 days on the Dry Tortugas Islands,  70 miles off the coast from Key West. Fort Jefferson and Garden key hold the most remote National park you can visit in our country. With no commercial fishing within the protected sanctuaries, and recreational fishing permitted, thus allowing for some off the best salt-water fishing in the whole country hands down.  Mostly accomplished from a kayak, shore or a pier. Everyday run-ins with the gray ghost were not uncommon. Not something in the depths of the fort, but a Giant learking in the shadowy green waters.

The first time I felt the power of a Tarpon rip every bit of line off my spinning outfit without one stop, i was awed.  I have failed at this fish so far in my life, but without concern. My time is coming soon when we will meet again.  After learning about the power in those emerald waters, I found a sanctuary for myself for the second time in my life around the ocean. That chapter was filled with so many friends and fun times, fishing, working all the same.

I credit that summer in Florida as a key to unlock, a tactic closer to home.
Spring Returns....soon

The Art of matchin the Hatch.  Not really...
"Fishing is a discipline in equality of men for all men are equal before fish."
   -Herbert Hoover

Time will tell...

Thank goodness its at least February and that over-grown hamster didn't see has shadow. Time feels sticky, lethargic and down right slow. It's so hard some days to talk optimistically about my idea, considering i still live with my mom, have not sold my house, don't even own a boat with a motor, and no Captain license yet. I know, i know one step at a time, so much to fall into place. A year ago i wanted everything to stop falling, now i wish the world would turn just a little faster.  Stop!

The Past has Lead me here...

Anyone who knows me, KNOWS I have serious Love for Fishing and the water. It's been in my Blood for a very long time.  I feel the best part of my fisherman experience is the fact i have never been exclusive or biased to one type or style, never tied down. I've been open to it all, everything i can learn on any type of water. From Spear fishing in Puerto Rico to fly-fishing Montana's back-country.  Cumulatively all roads in my life lead in this one direction, to be a fishing guide.

Why pursue Guiding....

An outdoor experience, when everything goes better then planned, is priceless. Guiding others allows for my personal experiences to push the trip towards perfection seamlessly.

The Idea and the Transition ...

So, today i have been unemployed for 1 year after losing my job at a wilderness treatment facility in Pittsboro, NC. It's been real tough, so many changes, so many choices to make   (where to hunt and fish*)  and staying afloat in a poor economy with a mortgage payment looming each month. But, i have made it work one way or another, and have reached 30 years old in the mean time. Looking back a couple years, when things were stable and easy.  I always knew when i turned 30 there was going to be a big changes in my life....

Well, I have taken the first step to changing my life...  I have enrolled in a Boat Captain course to be a Fishing Guide.  Simply, my plan is to sell my home / buy a boat,  move to the coast and pursue a life of a Fisherman,  guide and outfitter in the wonderful state of North Carolina.  My house is on the wonderful market and I start classes Feb. 18th 2011. Hopefully all things will fall into place. . .
